Cats and kittens are brought in for many reasons. Usually, adult cats are given up by their owners, or are ex-pets found abandoned on the street. Kittens are accepted if they are orphans or unable to fend for themselves.
All new residents are treated for fleas and worms, have their nails trimmed and their ears cleaned. They are kept separate until they are proved healthy, when they are carefully introduced to others. Any problems are treated as necessary.
All adult cats are vaccinated, and spayed or neutered.
ORPHAN KITTENS
These babies need bottle-feeding five or six times a day, until they can gradually be weaned onto proper food.
Many of the cats and older kittens are microchipped and blood-tested for rabies antibodies, so they can travel to europe.
At about twelve weeks old, kittens begin their vaccination program. At about six months old they are spayed or neutered.
Most of the cats and kittens are used to being with other cats, and are fine with the little white dogs that live here.
